Art therapy benefits people of all ages and life challenges. Facilitated by a licensed art therapist, Art therapy uses various art mediums to inspire imagination, expression and creativity. The process brings to life images of hope, resilience and possibilities that give fresh perspectives to the most difficult situations. Participants explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, and reduce anxiety.
Currently, The Art Experience offers art therapy services through the groups listed below. These groups are offered at no cost to the participant. Each group lasts about 8-12 weeks and repeats throughout the year. Days and times vary. If you are interested please fill out the Program Interest Form and we will contact you.
Pathfinders, Friday 4pm to 6pm
This is an art therapy group for teenage girls ages thirteen to sixteen. The group provides space for girls to share their stresses, concerns, and accomplishments and then use those thoughts to create meaningful art pieces. The emphasis is on the process of art making and allows girls a non-verbal pathway to express themselves. Girls report having increased confidence, self-esteem, and it empowers them to make positive choices.
This is an art therapy group for teenaged boys ages thirteen to sixteen. The group provides space for boys to work together share their stresses, concerns, and accomplishments creating meaningful art pieces. The emphasis is on the process of art making and allows boys a non-verbal pathway to express themselves.
Pages of Honor, Saturday 9am to 11am
This incredible group focuses on veterans. This project will teach veterans the art of paper-making, paper which they will make into a book. Once the blank books are put together the participating veterans will work with an art therapist to draw, write, paint, etc. in the book. A unique component of Pages of Honor involves the paper itself is that veterans will use a piece of their military uniform as the fiber needed to craft the pages.
This group provides children coping with ongoing medical interventions or illness a safe therapeutic environment to create art among peers. Participants will work in a variety of media to explore issues that arise from coping with chronic illness & treatment.
Are you ready to grow or recreate your life through art? This group for adults offers a supportive, non-judgmental setting where creativity, exploration and reflection are welcome. You will work with a varied array of art materials and mediums.
